Thanks so much for sharing. It's important for us to hear the feelings of others and how people approach handling those feelings. I believe your story carries importance and value because it helps others reflect on what they each go through individually and can give us more prospective on our own lives. Jeff
I’m locked from commenting on the original piece, but it’s a crime to write essays like this without mentioning the massive parallel world of gay nudism that is at least as large as traditional, heterosexual nudism. It incorporates many of the elements of sexual play and openness that you articulate. Go to any men’s campground and you will find a building or trailer on the grounds that has a sex sling and other equipment in it to facilitate play. People bring their own and set them up at their campsite! There are gay nudist cruises, resorts, retreats, yoga, beaches. My mid size Midwestern city has 3 gay nudist campgrounds within driving distance but only 1 heteronormative one.
All of this happens without any notion of self censorship or careful cultivation of a family friendly and wholesome image. Which is why heteronormative nudist institutions are desperate to ignore that this world exists, even as that other world grows larger than it itself is.
Thanks so much for writing this, Tim. I always enjoyed Almost Wild and learned many things about myself and the world by reading your supremely well written words and thoughts. I am a Boomer and so now am ancient (78), witnessing my friends dying off, and hoping that more of the next generation (your generation and after) can learn more and have a more fulfilled life by reading the intelligent and supremely readable work of those like you who willingly share your wisdom and life perspectives. Thank you again, TIm, and best wishes always to you and yours.
I would love to join you in your new crusade and follow your future writings.
